With its gentle terrain and abundance of accommodation, cafes and restaurants, the Hauraki Rail Trail is one of the easiest and most satisfying trails in the North Island. Leisurely riding along the Coromandel Peninsula coastline, you'll pass through quaint historic towns, lush farmlands, a historic railway corridor through the Karangahake Gorge, and then head south to Matamata, home of the Hobbiton Movie Set. As a Grade One cycle trail, it is suitable for riders of all ages, fitness and abilities.

A non-refundable 20% deposit is required to reserve your space.

Full payment is due 30 days before adventure start date.

Itinerary

Day 1
Meet at our bed and breakfast (B&B) in Paeroa at 5PM and be served delicious wood-fired pizza for dinner.

Day 2
After breakfast, hop on a shuttle to Thames (Gold Mining Heritage town) where we will ride the Thames/Paeroa section of the rail trail and the first 6kms of the Paeroa/Waihi rail trail to our B&B for dinner and desserts provided by our host. Highlights include the Matatoki Cheese Barn, Fresh fruit Ice creams at Hikutaia, a number of cycle bridges and the lush green pasture land of the Hauraki Plains.
3 - 5 hours / 41 kms

Day 3
After breakfast, we will follow the banks of the Ohinemuri river on the old Paeroa to Waihi rail trail through Waikino and onto the mining town of Waihi. Highlights include the 1.1km tunnel, several cycle bridges, waterfalls, the huge Victoria Battery complex, and the Waikino Station cafe. Return to our B&B for dinner and desserts once again provided by our hosts.
3 - 5 hours / 28 kms

Day 4
After breakfast, a shuttle will take us to Matamata at 9am to start your ride back to our B&B. Great views of the Kaimai Ranges with the impressive Wairere Falls. Other Highlights include Firth Tower – gardens and museum. Upon arrival at our B&B, we will celebrate completing the trail with drinks and snacks before heading home.

- Adventure itinerary and price are subject to change.

Is insurance included?

Deaf Adventures has liability insurance that covers accidents and injuries that occur during our adventures ONLY within New Zealand. This does not cover any adventures overseas, or any personal travel cancellations, postponements, interruptions, or any medical expenses that are not caused by our adventures. For this reason, we highly encourage you to purchase travel insurance (e.g. World Nomads or Travelex).

What if I need to cancel?

We understand that sometimes cancellations are unavoidable.

If you cancel at least 30 days before your trip start date, we will refund you in full (minus the deposit). If you cancel within 14 days of your adventure start date, we will refund 50% of your payment (minus the deposit). Cancellations less than 14 days before adventure start date cannot be refunded.

In the event that you need to cancel, please contact us as soon as you can.
