Guide to Gratuities
Not sure how much to tip your tour guide?
You're in the right place! We cover why you should tip your guide, how much is appropriate, and how to do it.
Why should I tip my tour guide?
Every great journey has a guide who makes it shine. They help you catch the best views, avoid stress, and return home with memories worth sharing. At Deaf Adventures, our guides go above and beyond. They carry suitcases, support personal needs, interpret for local guides, coordinate last-minute logistics, and find hidden gems like the best local restaurants, all to make sure your trip runs smoothly. What you see—the local stories, seamless logistics, and unforgettable experiences—is just the final result of countless hours of research, planning, and problem-solving. Tipping is a simple and thoughtful way to show your appreciation. It’s a way to say, “I noticed all the details, and I value them.” Like leaving a postcard of thanks at the end of a trip, it’s a small gesture that goes a long way in recognizing the dedication and care your guide puts into your adventure.
How much should I tip?
-
One Day Tour
For a single-day tour, consider tipping your guide around $10–$15 per person.
-
One-Week Tour
For a week-long tour, $10–$15 per day is standard, which usually totals $70–$100 per person.
-
Two+ Weeks Tour
For longer tours, your guide likely goes above and beyond on multiple occasions. A tip of $100 or more per person is appropriate to recognize their extra effort.
How do I tip?
Cash is the most common way to tip, but our guides also accept most digital payment methods like Zelle, CashApp, Venmo, and more. You can give your tip at the end of the tour — no need for anything formal, just a simple “thank you” along with your gesture of appreciation. Some travelers like to give local currency, but most guides are happy with USD or your home currency as well.
If your tour had several guides or crew members, the tip amount should be for each guide individually, so everyone who contributed to making your trip special is recognized.
Friendly reminder:
Tipping is always optional, but even a small tip can mean a lot. It’s a way to acknowledge all the extra steps your guide takes to ensure your trip is smooth, memorable, and stress-free.
